6 new albums of classical music
Classics do not die because they play it all the time. And they play it because it is a classic. Iron logic. But in fact, in fact: each generation finds something of its own in well-known works. At the same time, interpretations may differ radically even from one performer. At the beginning of winter, a number of curious recordings appeared of both young musicians and luminaries, who throughout their life had been thinking about a certain piece.
Seiji Ozawa, Tokyo Opera Singers, Mito Chamber Orchestra “Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 ”The last phrase is, of course, about Seiji Ozawa, an outstanding Japanese conductor, who made another recording of Beethoven’s textbook of the ninth symphony. This is the one where “Ode to Joy.” Ozawa played several times (including the opening of the Olympic Games in Nagano) and recorded (the symphony became his debut for Philips in 1970) is an amazing piece, where light pathos is combined with a large-scale plan, and the richest and whimsical orchestral fabric with hit tunes. Ozawa is the super conductor. His musicians play like a clock, only with a soul. It is recorded so great that even in cheap JBL “plugs” you seem to be sitting in the orchestra and see every note. Apple.Music, Yandex.Music, DeezerFelix Klieser & Camerata Salzburg “Mozart Horn Concertos 1-4” I accidentally stumbled upon recording this musician without knowing anything about him. Therefore, I listened with pleasure and impartiality. There are not so many trumpet and horn soloists, and even more bright ones. So Felix Klieser is a wonderful discovery. And, in essence, it doesn’t matter at all that the musician was born without both hands, and the valves are pressed with the fingers of his left foot. The new album is four concerts by Mozart for the French horn. But they were written for the horn of that time, an old one, from which later the modern one grew. Not only are both instruments hellishly complex in their own right, Mozart composed these specific concerts for his childhood friend Joseph Ignatz Leitgeb, who had grown to a virtuoso by that moment. But with all this technical complexity, the concerts are permeated with pure Mozart light and optimism. Just the same spring mood – vitamin happiness.Apple.Music, Yandex.Music, Deezer
Trio Les Esprits “Schubert” A young Belgian team of like-minded friends. Formed in 2012, they have already released several albums with melodic classics, and, naturally, they reached Schubert, a brilliant melodist who is graceful and pleasant, and played vigorously and with such enthusiasm and optimism as if it were some kind of pop music! In a good way. Well, a tearful Schubert melody – it is “sewn up” in the score, and it is impossible to spoil it. In my opinion, the most sweetly nostalgic here is “Sonata in A Minor (D 821)”, but, in principle, almost every track is a hit. Apple.Music, Yandex.Music, DeezerRafał Blechacz & Bomsori Kim “Fauré, Debussy, Chopin and Szymanowski” The duo album of the powerful violinist Bomsori (Pom Sori, as they call it in Russia) Kim and Polish pianist Rafal Blechach. Three sonatas of the romantic era, plus Chopin’s nocturne in an arrangement by Nathan Milstein – this is the biggest hit here. Sonata Foret for violin – thin and thoughtful – is started more or less restrained and elegant, but by the fourth part the uniform tantrum is increasing, and the code is just peals of thunder. It turns out a bright contrast with Shimanovsky and Debussy.Apple.Music, Yandex.Music, Deezer
Nicolas Stavy “Fauré: Piano Works” Is spring the season of Fore? Well, that is not bad in itself. Foret worked for many decades and wrote a bunch of original music, which is often transparent and elusive in mood. So, it is mainly played, but in this particular album of the 43-year-old Frenchman, Nicolas Put, emotional diversity reigns. Put deeply he dug into chamber piano music by Foret, which he composed all his life – that is, it all evolved with him. For the melodism of “wide breathing” (by the intuitively accurate definition of Grove’s vocabulary) he was called “French Schumann” and was considered the real heir of Chopin. Put it really plays his “Chopinist.” Sometimes pathetic, heroic: here in this spirit Ballad in F sharp major. The sonata written in the same key is ideally constructed, geometric, rational. And three romance without words – a charming salon. And also on the record exclusive: several unpublished works by Foret, found by the pianist himself! Apple.Music, Deezer
Luisa Imorde “L’Affaire d’honneur” Well, let’s complete the review, as we started, with Beethoven, which is placed on this record in an interesting context. This is why, among other things, modern interpretations of the classics are good, because these are concepts. Old and modern composers, plus their spiritual heirs and so on. Interesting! The album of pianist Louis Imord is also conceptual and is built around Mozart, more precisely, rumors about him. The collection opens and ends with “La stessa, la stessissima” by Antonio Salieri in variations of Joseph Welfl and Beethoven, respectively. So here Salieri in relation to Mozart is a fictional rival enemy, a forgotten and wonderful Welfl – a real competitor.
